Enjoy Special Musical Events This Weekend

On Bonaire, tomorrow (Friday) begins the long Easter holiday weekend, with Friday, Sunday, and Monday as legal holidays.  There will be lots of time to fill, and there are two very special musical events to help pass all that extra leisure time!

Friday evening, March 29th, Club Roomer will present a Bonaire Guitar Duo beginning at 7:00 PM.  Elger Verschuur will be on guitar and violin, while Terence de Haseth will be on guitar and cajon.  They plan a good mix of famous pop songs from The Beatles to Bruno Mars to Juanes, combined with some classical pieces (Bach), some ballads, all spiced up with occasional flamenco music.  Both musicians will be on nylon acoustic guitars.  The event is hosted at Roomer Hotel & Restaurant in Belnem.

The duo will also be performing at Rum Runners Restaurant at Captain Don’s Habitat on Easter Sunday evening as well, and on Saturday, April 27th at Divi Flamingo Beach Resort and Casino.  These additional events provide the chance to mix a wonderful dinner with exceptional background music.

Be sure to catch the duo on one of their performances.  Enjoy!  (Source:  Club Roomer, Bonaire Insider reporter)

Coral Spawning Predictions for 2013 Now Available

Many visitors in the months of August, September, or October are pleased and surprised to find they are on Bonaire during spawning activities of corals and other invertebrates.  Other visitors plan their trips to Bonaire specifically for the chance to glimpse this unique event.

Although certainly not an exact science, it is well documented that various species of coral and other marine invertebrates spawn in cycles that are closely tied to the full moons in the months of August, September, and October each year.  After years of studies, we have predictions which are the best guesses as to which species will spawn when.  The best way to enjoy this unusual phenomenon is to plan to spend lots of time making night dives when here during the spawning season.

STINAPA has just added their 2013 spawning predictions to their web site, so if you have a visit planned for the months of August though October this year, do check out the schedule to see if you will be on Bonaire during predicted spawning times.  Click here to view the 2013 predictions schedule.  At this same location, the schedule can be downloaded via PDF.  (Source:  STINAPA web site)

Ninth Annual ProKids Freestyle and Slalom Windsurfing Competition Is May 31 through June 2, 2013

Occurring each year now since 1996, the ProKids Freestyle and Slalom Windsurfing Competition has been set for May 31 through June 2, 2013.  Taking place at Bonaire’s famed windsurfing location, Sorobon at Lac Bay, the event will attract the sport’s youth from both Bonaire and around the world.

This fun event is sure to deliver great sportsmanship, great camaraderie, and great food and drinks at even better event parties throughout the competition. Although normally held at the end of July and into August, the dates are being changed this year to the end of May and beginning of June, in the hope that better winds will prevail to make the event even more exciting for both participants and spectators.

And to add to the fun, enjoy bolas, beach volleyball, beach football, and other sorts of games throughout the days of the competition.  For those sailing, there will be two days of competition in freestyle, slalom and racing, followed by a barbecue night with music and a mega concert as a grand finale.  Be sure to save the dates!  For more information, click here to view the event web site.  (Source:  ProKids Freestyle)

Buddy Dive Resort Announces New Boat Diving Packages, Adds New Boat to Fleet

Buddy Dive’s newest offering is perfect for divers who want to see the best sites of Bonaire from the comfort of their fleet of five dive boats.  The Boat Dive Package includes 12 boat dives with air or nitrox and fruit served after every dive, a hot buffet breakfast daily, accommodations, and airport transfers and taxes.

Additionally, divers who choose the Boat Diving Package can also enjoy unlimited air or nitrox for making shore dives from the pier at the resort.  The package was created in response to their guests’ demand for diving on Klein Bonaire and the popular northern dive sites, which are inaccessible from shore.  Klein Bonaire is just a 7-10 minute ride, and the northern sites are only 15-20 minutes.  All of the dive dive boats have areas for dry storage, fresh cold drinking water, and separate fresh water rinse buckets for cameras and other equipment.

The Coral Buddy is the newest addition to the fleet, and it’s a custom-tailored dive boat (36’ Newton) that just was put into service recently.  It joins The Dive Buddy, a 42’ motor catamaran, The Harbour Lady, also a 36’ Newton, The Red Tide, a 30’ Island Hopper, and The Bayena, a 30’ Newton.

For more information and to make a reservation, visit Buddy Dive Resort’s web site by clicking here, or email info@buddydive.com(Source:  Buddy Dive Resort)

Bruce Bowker’s Carib Inn Posts New Dates for Specials and Last-Minute Availability

Because the Carib Inn is so popular and has a high rate of returning, happy guests, many times this small inn is sold out well in advance. However, sometimes the Inn has extra availability, or cancellations do, unfortunately, occur, and so the property maintains a page on their web site to announce times when special pricing is available.

Those interested in checking the specials and/or last-minute availability can do so by clicking here.  At the top of the page, any last-minute availability for the coming months is noted, along with the timeframes and type of accommodations available.  Further down the page, any upcoming specials are noted.  For example, currently Carib Inn is offering a $20.00 per night discount from August 24 through November 16 on new bookings for any non-seaside unit.

For information on advance bookings or simply to make any inquiry, visit their web site by clicking here, or e-mail info@caribinn.com(Source:  Carib Inn)

Join In to Help Keep Bonaire Beautiful on Upcoming Beach and Coastal Cleanups

Those wishing to help keep Bonaire beautiful will have ample opportunities this weekend, as well as next week, as there are two coastal cleanups planned.

The first will take place tomorrow, March 9th, 2013, at the beach known as Lagoen (or Lagun) from 8:00 AM until 12:00 Noon.  This cleanup is sponsored by STINAPA, and the beach here is a repository for all sorts of plastic debris and other trash that washes up on the eastern, windward coast of Bonaire.  Be sure to wear closed, sturdy shoes, wear loose and cool clothing, and bring, water, sunscreen, and lots of energy!

Another coastal cleanup will take place as part of the Bon Doet Annual Volunteer effort and is also sponsored by STINAPA as well.  This will take place on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 8:00 to 11:00 AM at Sorobon.

Bonaire has been at the forefront of efforts to keep the island clean for many years now, and these efforts will help to combat what washes up on the island’s windward beaches from other locations in the region.  Everyone is welcome to come and help keep Bonaire beautiful!  (Source:  STINAPA)
