Bonaire Insider Dining Review--Blue Garden Brazilian Grill and Pizza Gourmet

I recently had the opportunity to try out the newly opened Blue Garden Brazilian Grill & Pizza Gourmet.  This new Bonaire eatery opened on the site of the previous Casablanca Restaurant, on Kaya Julia A. Abraham Boulevard #6.

I have to say that this new restaurant–in one visit–made it my Favorites list.  The renovated restaurant has a cool and refreshing blue look to it, the staff were attentive and pleasant, and the food was simply excellent!

Blue Garden specializes in gourmet pizza, creating 17 specialty pizzas that you probably won’t find anywhere on Bonaire.  I personally enjoyed the Blue Garden special, with mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, arugula, fresh mushroom, capers, green olives, bacon, and buffalo mozzarella

Others in our party enjoyed the Four Cheese Pizza, with mozzarella, Italian Gran Padano parmesan, gorgonzola, and Requeija gourmet Brazilian cheese, served with black olives.  And yet we had another pizza to try out, the Spectacular Shrimp Pizza, served with flambéed tiger shrimp, mozzarella, Requeija gourmet Brazilian cheese, crispy fried garlic, parsley, and green olives.

Are your mouths watering yet?  With only three taste-tested, I have only 14 more to try!

For those wishing a lighter fare, there is a veggie pizza, as well as a fresh tuna pizza, and those who wish to eat green can enjoy either a Salad Navegantes, made with tiger shrimp and mussels, croutons, and slices of Gran Padano parmesan cheese, or the Salad Primadonna with lettuce, croutons, Gran Padan parmesan cheese, and served with the house’s specially prepared sauce.

But what about the carnivores?  Meat lovers will not have a problem with finding something as well. The grill offers three choices of fine Brazilian meats:  Picanha Brasileira Combo, a prime cut of the top sirloin, sliced and light seasoned.  This is served with a small grill on your table so that you may cook the meat to your own preference.  And for those who cannot choose just one meat, there’s the Mix Grill Combo with Picanha, Sausage, Chicken and Brazilian Cheese Bread and yucca, or the Carré Combo, a New Zealand Rack of Lamb (12 oz/350 grams), also served with Brazilian Cheese Bread and yucca.

Although all of my dining companions and I tried to say no to dessert, we were just too full, our hostess wouldn’t hear of it.  She informed us that we simply could not leave without sampling one of her dessert pizzas, so she made a small personal-sized Banana pizza with ice cream for the four of us taste and share.  I have to say it was sublime.  The mix of the mozzarella with the sweetness of caramel and the bananas made the dessert almost savory, and I will have to return to try out (just a bite!) the Choco Noir Pizza Mango or the Choco Noir Pizza Cherry.

All in all, Bonaire has a wonderful new restaurant to enjoy!

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Coco Beach, a new beach bar and restaurant, is rising from the ashes of the old Sunset Beach Hotel.

The new bar and eatery is scheduled to open tomorrow, October 1st, 2015, just in time to also celebrate this year’s Regatta, which will take place at Coco Beach.

Coco Beach will be open seven day s a week, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 PM, and it will offer a variety of lunch, dinner, and snack options, as well as fresh-made cocktails, ice-cold beers, and your favorite mixed drinks.  It’s a great place to watch Bonaire’s fabulous sunsets, with your toes in the sand and your favorite beverage in hand.  Enjoy!

Sebastian’s Restaurant Welcomes Pastry Chef Janos Vermaat

In the two years since Sebastian’s Restaurant first opened, it has become one of the most popular of restaurants, known for its chic and romantic decor as well as the fine dishes which Chef Sebastian creates using only the freshest of local and high-end imported ingredients.  But now, Chef Janos Vermaat has joined the kitchen crew and he is creating some delectable desserts.

With his arrival, now all pastries at Sebastian’s Restaurant are created by Chef Janos.  He’s a former Michelin-starred pastry chef, and he crafts each and every home-made pastry that is served in the restaurant.  He’s known for his fusion of traditional and new age methods, and he melds many flavors and textures into tantalizing desserts.  The dessert specials now change as frequently as the savory menu, to take advantage of whatever is fresh and in season.

A Different Dining Option at Sebastian’s Restaurant

The many fans of Chef Sebastian’s dining creations now have another reason to visit the waterfront restaurant, known for its fine dining.  For a limited time, Chef Sebastian is offering an Early Bird Special, offering his very own take on a “burger and fries.”

Chef Sebastian is now well known on Bonaire for taking every-day ingredients, and presenting them with his very own personal spin.  Even a burger and fries gets elevated status at Sebastian’s Restaurant, as the “burger” is a fish burger made from the freshest catch of the day, the “fries” are sweet potato fries, and the mayonnaise is a truffle mayonnaise.  Now put them all together, and one has a tasty, healthy, after work meal.

The Early Bird special is served at the bar only between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, and accompanying beers are only $2.00 during the special, and it is only available now through September 30th.  So now Chef Sebastian’s fans can stop in after a day of diving, or a day of work, and enjoy his great cooking.  For more information about Sebastian’s Restaurant, visit their web site by clicking here(Source:  Sebastian’s Restaurant)

Bonaire’s Culinary Team Brings Home the Gold from Taste of the Caribbean

Earlier in June, Bonaire sent a contingent of its finest chefs and bartenders to Miami to compete in the annual Taste of the Caribbean competition.  Once again, the Bonaire team made us all proud, by bringing home the gold.

Although the Bonaire Culinary Team brought home prizes in various categories once again, by far the most important achievement was their gold medal as National Team of the Year--a first time! The team brought home a total of six medals in different categories during The Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition held June 19-21, 2015.

Teams get the chance to showcase their talents before the judges during many competition events, both as a team and on an individual basis and with the assistance of team manager Floris van Loo from Rum Runners Restaurant. Miguel Saragoza had the best beef dish and also became the overall winner in the beef/seafood competition.  Giovannie Veld received a silver medal in the Junior Chef competition, Channetton Jansen won a silver medal in the chef-of-the-year competition where he prepared a wonderful dish to amaze the judges. Bartender Jay Frans fascinated the judges with his cocktails with a Bonairean touch of Cadushy Liquor, which garnered him a bronze medal. Also receiving bronze medals were Pastry Chef Junior Janga and Ronald Gosepa who competed in the cheesecake competition.

Congratulations once again to the entire team!  This annual event just goes to prove what residents and visitors to Bonaire already know--that these chefs and bartenders offer up enticing, innovative food and drinks all year round!  Pabien!(Source:  Bonhata)
